Y'know, I think I've only been non-single once on Valentine's Day (and, aside from that, It's only been, um, complicated enough to warrant cards and such on one or two occasions).
Today's ijw's wedding. I'm off to the reception later - currently I'm loitering in a pub in Evesham (which, thankfully, has now stopped playing Tom Jones songs), having just toured the Almonry Heritage Centre.
(It's a little odd touring a museum that includes a £1 note and the same old dial telephone my family used until well after I'd left for Uni. I feel strangely old...)
These are good ways to spend the day. Still, it's hard to get away from the sheer commercialised couple-y schmaltz of it all. Which, to be clear, is not something that many people I know indulge in.
I've always thought of it as an opportunity to do something a little bit silly and special, to subvert expectations a bit. Not just a card bought in Tesco at the last minute. It's the personal, less quantifiable stuff that makes it mean something, surely?
Hmm. Am rambling. Should stop, and investigate buses - back to the B&B I think, then on to the celebration...
