That was fun. Blood, action, striking imagery, some nasty moments and a wonderful last line...

I know some people have complained that the 'out of sequence' segments seemed forced, but they worked for me. Launched straight into the action with the shortest/simplest section, then provided the background and the longer Tokyo/Okinawa chapter. Yep, that works.

And, yes, this means you know in advance that she manages to successfully deal with O-Ren. But c'mon, that was pretty much a foregone conclusion, surely? I didn't see it as a spoiler that ruined the plot. The details were what made it interesting.

Gogo was twisted and crazy. But entertaining. Expected a less sudden finale to that bit, though.

Was anyone else expecting Bill to throttle the hospitalised Sophie in the last few minutes?

Bill was... minimal. But interesting. He has a certain presence - mostly because of his voice.

Elle Driver is a venomous piece of work who'll probably come to a really nasty end in part 2...

...and is anyone else wondering if things will take a rather different turn with Bride meeting Buddy? He doesn't look like someone who wants to fight. Bride told Vernita that nothing she'd done since the wedding massacre would be enough to save her life. Maybe Buddy will change her view on this? Actually, given that (iirc) we only see a headshot of him, possibly he's already dying, chairbound or some such?

Finally, one of the scenes from the trailer - with an opponent leaping onto the flat of Bride's outstretched katana, then backflipping off and kicking her in the jaw - doesn't seem to be in the final cut. Shame, but perhaps it was a little more streamlined without?

[Oh, and a tiny moment of RPG spoddery - for any of the Monday night Amber lot trying to picture just what you can/can't do with two dozen points in Warfare, Bride's Tokyo killing spree is pretty much on the mark. :)]

Only two dozen?! Some people think that with a read of a book they can take on the world...pshaw!

Sounds remarkably shiny...big swords and blood and yet I somehow can't seem to work up an enthusiasm for going. Ah well. Doubtless I'll get dragged to it at some point. :)
Glad you enjoyed it anyway. ~hugs~

I'm pretty sure that this scene will be in volume 2. I'm pretty sure that the actor who is playing The Bride's opponent is Chinese (or at the very least, very much *not* Japanese... and therefore, not Yakuza), which suggests to me that she is fighting him in a different place. I speculate that The Bride will be heading to Hong Kong or China at some point in the next movie, as I recall the credits listing a Beijing crew (and I suspect that the end credits are actually the credits for both volumes).

Good guess - they filmed it as one thingy and then broke it up in the editing because "they had too much good stuff to cut".

It was rad - more for the movie within the movie....

Hmm. You could well be right - I've not seen the trailer recently, and all I really recall is a swordfight against a snowy garden backdrop, reminiscent of the final bit of Vol 1. Must go download/watch the trailer again.

Just for reasons of accuracy, you understand. :)
