Oh, and there's a new Tori Amos album ("Scarlet's Walk") out at the end of October, if anyone's interested - I don't know if there'll be any UK dates to support it.

Anyone interested in any of this?

I knew something would come up to make me regret being in America in November.

november in america

hey november is hunting season in america. How cool is that?

Do you want a serious or a witty answer to that?

I figured that thanksgiving and hunting season are the two coolest things going on in America in november. From your response it seems that you don't hunt. So give me both responses. serious and witty. Perhaps we could do a two pronged banter/debate. It might be fun.

We Britons don't tend to hunt unless we've a lot more upper-class than I am. And even if I were, I wouldn't.

But I know better than to get involved in a hunting/weapons debate online, so I'll hide behind the Tom Lehrer song on the topic. Cowardly, me? Yes.

I've got alot of british friends. It's kind of funny. whenever they come over, one of the things we have to schedule is a trip out to a friends farm to shoot guns. First time we take them out they are nervous, but the next time they come to the states, they are insistent. I believe that guns are like pornography to brits. my canadian friens are the same way. its funny to see this british girl I know hammering away at a friend of mine with a paintball gun, laughing like a maniac.

Paintball and airsoft are a very different issue from hunting, though, aren't they? Even more so than guns in general, imho.

I did a little rifle-shooting when I was young, and was never that struck on it. I'd quite like to have another go at crossbow (target) shooting some day, but that's the sum total of my interest in such things.

Well normally she uses the .22, the sks (before I sold it), and the shotgun. The paintball gun was just a game. It was hilarious to see dan cowering behind the outhouse while a demonically laughing british girl painted it bright green. She loves to eat my venison. and has shown an interest in getting one herself. her main worry is any emotional reaction she might have. I told her about emotional reactions friends have told me about, from just being excited, to violent trembling, to worry, to horrific guilt. we'll see if she ever comes to the states during hunting season.

Oysterband good.

Concise, accurate

[identity profile] mrph.livejournal.com 2002-10-09 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
And [livejournal.com profile] geekchick mentioned a new Oysterband album, too... :-)

I've still not seen them live, so I will make it to one gig or the other, really...

[That reduces my current "must see them play live one day" list to just Tom Waits, Devin Townsend and Laurie Anderson...]

New oysterband album is being launched at the London gig.
You really should see them live.

From the OysterBand mail shot:
We have a new CD called RISE ABOVE out on Monday 30 September
The tracks are:
The Soul's Electric; Uncommercial Song; If You Can't
Be Good; Everybody's Leaving Home; My Mouth;
Shouting About Jerusalem; Blackwaterside; Rise Above; Wayfaring; Bright Morning Star.

All ever so good as usual. And "If You Can't Be Good" should be a goth theme song, it's already Fury's. Bright Morning Star is a vocals only number. Sadly it looks as though "Road to Nowehere" didn't make it onto the album after all :-(

[identity profile] duranorak.livejournal.com 2002-10-09 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
Sadly it looks as though "Road to Nowhere" didn't make it onto the album after all

Rats, I was really really looking forward to hearing that...~sigh~

I saw them a couple of times during the summer, and I was also very taken with it.

This may suddenly become six, money allowing. :-)

Looks like Justin Sullivan's playing Brum the same night as the Oysterband gig in Wolverhampton, so...

Yes, damnit. Unfortunately the airfare makes tickets prohibitively expensive. ;)

[identity profile] mrph.livejournal.com 2002-10-09 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
LOL. Well, if you will go and live on the wrong continent...

I guess it's payback for all those bands who don't tour the UK at all.
