"This will be a monumental struggle of good versus evil, but good will prevail" - GWB

Oh, for fuck's sake. This is a tragedy and a godawful act of terrorism, it is not a George Lucas film. Life is not Hollywood. While I'm pretty sure that the President's speechwriters are smart enough to realise this, I wish they'd stop trying to present it to the public in this gift-wrapped complexity-free way.

Fucking hell. And how exactly will good prevail? And how will they know when they have?

But perhaps they think the best way to re-assure people is to tell them they have nothing to worry about.

Evidently that's not true.

Surely if it is so damn certain that good will eventually prevail, then in some deep, indefinable sense, good already has prevailed and they need do nothing.

No? Worth a try though, isn't it?

*smile* Yes.

I agree with you about the coverage. I'm now getting tired of seeing yet another person tell of their not-death. Analysis, discussion of what to do now, moving on - these are the things that should be discussed.

In fact I think the lack of this discussion on the TV is part of what's prompting us to do it here.
