Gardening update - 2015, part 1

Achievements so far:

1) One raised bed cleared
2) Three-cornered leeks planted in pots
3) Daffodil garlic from [livejournal.com profile] davefish planted in pots.
4) Quince tree and apple trees pruned

Next on the list...

I got round to digging a few of the parsnips I had planned to use over New Year today. The plan was waylaid by a neighbour giving us some of hers. These were a lot smaller and digging them was not easy, the earth is damp and hard to lift and several of them snapped off in the ground.

Currently they are finely chopped and simmering (almost steaming) in a saucepan. Likely I'll make soup with them as they were not really large enough to roast.

Has your chard from last year died off? Mine is still alive, despite snow a while back.

No chard left. :-(

Most of the herbs are still going strong, one of the day lilies is already back and the walking onions are thriving, though.

A new batch of chard's going in within the next week or two...

Daffodil garlic? I'll have to look that up; aren't daffodils supposed to be toxic?

Daffodils are, but this is actually an onion/chive relative where leaves look a bit similar:
