(no subject)

I'm really not convinced that Tool, Cradle of Filth, System of a Down or Slayer are at all goth. Or dear old Ozzy Osbourne for that matter.

But people seem to keep submitting their gigs to the netgoth.events listing. Why?!

Is the requirement that they be goth, or of interest to goths?

Noting that either of these questions could very easily lead to arguments, I'm not going to dispute your answer ;)

Ah, now there's the question...

The events listing is intended as a calendar-style guide to goth and goth(ish) events around the UK.

IMHO that means that it needs a good signal-to-noise ratio - in the spirit of Helix, some not-quite-goth stuff which appeals to goths might creep in (John Foxx, Depeche Mode, that sort of thing), but I'm very wary of letting it turn into NetMetal or NetAlternative events. Especially as that road leads straight back into the heated "Nu Metal is not goth" debates...

We're not listing general rock/metal/alternative nights, so I think the same policy can safely apply to gigs.

This sounds like a good policy. Not that there's anything wrong with these events, but they have their own forums and they're not necessarily of any greater interest to goths than to anyone else.

Whaddya mean??

Ozzy is the uber-goth. Remember: I'm old enough to know.

Judes (and thanks for the usercode...)

...and orange is the new black, right?

I think I'll quietly drop the subject and hide now... :)

They're not goth

But more importantly, they're not good either. And it's for this reason that they should be dropped faster than Britney's support network.

I am fed up with the proliferation of shite. And, yes, I am going to be a culture nazi about it. [Fumes and rants]

Heh

I'm a (currently the, if dishmop's busy) moderator. I'm allowed to be a culture nazi about it. It's one of the good things about the job... :)
