A lovely quote from Roger Ebert...

"The day will come when Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will be studied in film classes and shown at cult film festivals. It will be seen, in retrospect, as marking the end of an era. Of course there will be many more CGI-based action epics, but never again one this bloated, excessive, incomprehensible, long (149 minutes) or expensive (more than $200 million)."

It's rare that one film such as this can inspire so many critics to come up with different ways to say how bad it was.

It's the death of narrative cinema.

Curious.....I belive, more or less was said about waterworld a while back....cinema is still here !

Cinema is still here, but Waterworld did persuade people that investing that much money in that type of film might not be a sure success - possibly this will do the same for the "CGI-based action epics" that Ebert mentions?

I really wasn't that sold on it. You can tell it was produced during a writers strike...

Having people think what they are investing in is potentialy a good idea. Too much money and too little thought is often put into the process.

Alas it will probably affect lower budget stuff too though, which is a shame.

I've yet to see it, but i quite often enjoy the mindless action flicks even if i don't rate them that highly. Alien Vs Predator was actualy quite enjoyable if utter dross....yet to see the second one mind.

To be honest i never rated the 1st transformers movie, but kids and marketing go well together for leavering open parents wallets, hence the sequel.

Unfortunately, Waterworld was a flop, and Transformers 2 is a big success. I doubt that's the negative re-enforcement needed....

Transformers 2 has Transformers in it. That is why I intend to go to see it, and expect to enjoy it loads despite all the bad reviews.
