Herb garden, part IV...

So, the last of the perennials have just been delivered:

• English Mace
• Fennel
• Lime Mint
• Lemon Scented Catnip
• Gold Tipped Oregano
• 'Green Ginger' Rosemary
• Orange Scented Thyme
• 'Berries and Cream' Mint
• Ramsons (Wild Garlic)
• Purple Sage
• Sage
• Rock Samphire

And, yes, some of you are allowed to mock me for growing fennel. That particular plant probably has a happy future ahead of it, with very little interference from scissors... :)

I'm a little more concerned about the catnip and samphire - the catnip may or may not survive the neighbourhood moggies, the samphire is still very small, has quite particular requirements, and needs to survive my tender care...
(but, y'know, home grown samphire if it works... that bit's exceedingly tempting... :)

Just note..once Fennel flowers and seeds it dies... so you will need to keep it trimmed....

Be aware that mint is an Imperial Herb(TM) and will attempt to take over the garden. Best plant it in a pot.

Yep - I've already got Moroccan mint, sorrel and horseradish... In pots, for exactly that reason. :-) Although the horseradish will get planted out (to allow proper root growth) just as soon as I can sink some slates to wall it off...

Aside from anything else, intermingling mints isn't terribly good for flavour... :-(

true. I have 6 kinds of chillies in my conservatory which means no reseeding from the seeds. rosemary, oregano, lavender, thyme and sage in the front garden between the landlady's roses. Back garden just acquired a laurel bush and has some chervil.

Ah. I was just about to sow myself a little patch of sorrel. Is it really invasive, then? (I don't mind things that spread a *bit*, but I already have couch grass and stinging nettles to contend with...)

We've got a massive Fennel tree in our back garden. During summer it flowers and attracts load of bees. Our Rosemary got out of control and took over all our herb patch & killed our bay tree.

I have the opposite problem, I planted the bay tree in soil instead of potting it, and now it's over 6' and trying to take over the world, whereas the rosemary has had to be replaced twice.

Ah, our bay tree was potted. And underneath the Rosemary. The cats also seem to like the Rosemary as well, both for sleeping in and peeing on!

Doesn't samfire need a salty environment ie needs to grow by the sea? Or am I confusing it with something else entirely?
