Tick, tick, tick

At the third stroke, the time will be 11:53. Joy.

Although since the furthest the clock has been from midnight is seventeen minutes one can't help but think that the group chose a rather unscientific scale to highlight a real problem...

Indeed... it would be good to know what they think the maximum is - if, as they appear to say, it's the "last quarter of the clock", 17 minutes makes very little sense. Then again, I really can't think how you scale this sort of thing.

None of which makes the increased tension more welcome, of course.

Yes, when does it reach 5 to 5 and what does that signify, except that it's time for Crackerjack? ("CRACKERJACK!!")

I prefer the Rapture Index: [ http://www.raptureready.com/rap2.html ]

I think it also has a tendency to run backwards at times. My evidence for this is scant, to say the least; in the early '80s, Wah! released a single called Seven Minutes To Midnight.

Ah. That URL you gave confirms this. Okay, never mind me, nothing to see here, pass along...
