Excerpt from my Monday morning...

Me: About this revised CCFL circuit. There's some confusion with one of the capacitors.

EE: Oh, the film cap value? Yeah. There's some confusion about that.

Me: Any idea if it's 47nF or 100nF? Has it changed from the old Rev?

EE: I've not changed it, no. But I'm not sure what we were fitting to the old boards, so...

Me: The documentation and drawings say 47nF, 0603 package.

EE: ...well, yes, but I'm not sure they were actually using that, you see...

Me: Shall I go get an old board and check, then? We have some in stores.

EE: Well, you could do that. But I'm not sure if it's right, anyway...

Me: Well, you've just said that you're not changing it...

EE: No, but still, it's probably not definitive...

Me: So we don't know what we're actually using, and even if we do find out, we don't know if it's right?

EE: Well, it's not quite that clear-cut, but...

Me: In the nicest possible way, this is not helping. Excuse me while I go far, far away and get some lunch.

You just couldn't make this stuff up, could you?

Nope...

...although it pales into insignificance compared to some of the more bizarre calls that [livejournal.com profile] drivenapart seems to get... :)

(And I'm still betting that [livejournal.com profile] paulw can name the EE in question without more than ten seconds thinking time, too...)

Oh come on! My calls are usually down to basic, bog-standard stupidity and ignorance. That one above just took incompetence to another level seen only in Dilbert strips. Does he...does he have pointy hair?
