(no subject)

I'm vaguely disappointed in you lot. Yes, I mean you. Why did nobody tell me that there's a new Diana Wynne Jones book out?

Well, ok, according to Amazon it's not out - not for another three weeks. But as I bought a copy in Ottakars this afternoon, I'm not entirely convinced I believe them. :-)

(their picture doesn't do justice to the awfulness of the cover, btw. It's metallic blue and too garish for my liking. Although I guess they're aiming for the 11-12 year olds, who might have a slightly different opinion on this...)

"it worked for that Colfer chap"

Yeah. Point. And hasn't he got a new one out soon? Hopefully a little less of a potboiler than the last two Artemis Fowl books.

Probably because I didn't know?!

Hmm. New Chrestomancy?
I still need to get the ones I'm missing. Weep. Where are those Waterstone's vouchers?

I didn't know. (Embarrassing, given that the team working next to me is SFX, but I never bother to pick up a copy of the mag...)

I loved DWJ as a kid, and have only recently started buying them again. Makes me wonder why I waited so long.

Off topic, but (a) do you by any chance have a working e-mail address for Mike Francis from Kaleidoscope, and (b) whatever happened to your plan with Alan Rogers and others to launch your own magazine thingy?

[identity profile] mrph.livejournal.com 2005-02-15 10:11 am (UTC)(link)
a) No, but I bet someone reading this does.

b) Killing Jar? After a number of false-starts and hitches (and one hell of a learning curve on the layout software...), I decided to keep relatively quiet about it until things were actually done. Which means you can expect to hear me yelling loudly about the 'zine and it's contents (interviews include Bella Morte, Swarf, The Sepia, Assemblage 23, Rome Burns, Arcana...) within the next week or two, when #1 has (finally) been safely delivered and I want to sell it to unsuspecting goths. :)

[Addendum #1 ...er, and the website for it is due to appear somewhen in the next 24 hours too, although I've said that before...]

has no one ever told you that the art of surprise, is ah surprise,
no one will be unsuspecting now, mind you goths after a few beers...
hopefully you will have heaps of sales

Because you're all-seeing when it comes to things like album releases so I thought you already knew about it? :)

Because I didn't know?

Is it very good, or just good? (DWJ never does less, so...)

[identity profile] mrph.livejournal.com 2005-02-20 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It's good. It's got Chrestomanci (sort of... :), and the first half is really very good. Just not entirely sure about how the ending comes together - so not quite as good as the Merlin Conspiracy, IMHO.

A review will be heading towards LJ soon, though. :)
