Saw Van Helsing this afternoon. Nice way to waste a couple of hours - doesn't exactly tax the brain, never entirely serious and very pretty to look at.

And much better than Underworld. :)

Shame that Frankenstein's Monster kept reminding me of Kryten from Red Dwarf, though... :)

Very pretty to look at == Hugh Jackman?

I'm intrigued by the Kryten comparison - did the monster have a compulsion to wash dishes?

Hmm. [livejournal.com profile] mistressmalaise now wants to go and see this, despite every other review we've seen which says that gouging out your eyeballs is preferable. She may well drag me along, and if she does I will hold you personally responsible if it sucks as much as I think it will ;p

Oi! Don't blame me...

I suspect that, like me, you'll end up going "and they nicked that bit from...". But it is quite fun. Not rushing out to buy the DVD, but felt it was ok for a cinema trip...

Still better than Underworld, though.

I LOVED it! There were so many wonderful references to things in it, it was very clever!

And there were lots of vampires and nice costumes :) +++++

Me 'n' the Cute BF thought it was a scream, too. It *definitely* pissed all over Underworld, which went for style over content to a point which made The Matrix look like Shakespeare. Himself thought that Van Helsing was very Rocky Horror in terms of the amount of camp humour and referential stuff, silly but fun.

I nitpicked hugely about Kate Beckinsale's costume, mind you. What idiot wardrobe person thought that it was even *vaguely* appropriate or consistent, in any period of history you care to mention?

Consistent? In a film where people can happily ricochet off walls without a scratch... until the fatal moment when they can't... I think you expect too much. :)

But still... yep, pretty and great fun...
