Opinion columns and logic, or lack thereof

This rather worrying piece about Bush's War On Terrorism was quoted on [livejournal.com profile] wtcdisaster.

I've already commented on it there, but I thought it was worth highlighting here, too.

Rather you than me

I don't think I should start reading wtcdisaster

Not only does it appear to be chock full of bullshit, I couldn't bear to comment in a community where every comment is labelled 'remember the victims'. Ugh!

And what the hell is a Mommy Liberty shirt? On second thoughts, I'm certain I don't want to know...

Ah,yes...

... the old create a ridiculous straw man, wreath it in something that might pass for logic to people who think logic is probably a new kind of Toyota, pin a label on it and push it out saying 'See! this is what pacifism is! So now you don't have to listen to an actual pacifist!'

I've seen it done to feminism, socialism and to most of the alternative sexualities out there before, but this is the first time I've seen this particular manifestation before. I suspect that's due to not having lived through a major war. :(

Oh, and I agree with purplerabbits (http://www.livejournal.com/users/purplerabbits) about wtcdisaster (http://www.livejournal.com/users/wtcdisaster), by the way. My bluster and sentiment buffers are both, at present, over-full.
